The EOS-1V is a new addition to the celebrated Canon EOS System incorporating several significant innovations in durability, performance and customization. Featuring a weather-resistant all-metal body, the EOS-1V offers the fastest continuous shooting speed in its class at 10 frames per second (fps) in One Shot AF and 9 fps with AI Servo AF. The new camera also incorporates 20 built-in Custom Functions for fine-tuning of various camera settings, and is compatible with new EOS Link (software for downloading exposure information to a PC or uploading up to 30 "Personal Functions" to the camera. Other professional features include a 100 percent viewfinder with adjustable diopter, 1/250th second flash sync, and a top shutter speed of 1/8000th second.
This lightweight body is the perfect blend of rigidity, durability and total precision.Canon built the body of the EOS-1V to deliver top performance regardless of the shooting environment. Top priority was placed on the precise machining of all parts. The aperture and hybrid framework structure which serve as the base for various parts and fittings are diecast aluminum, with glass-fiber reinforced polycarbonate resin, which is equal in strength to metal. The main outside covers are made of magnesium alloy. The lightweight body benefits from remarkably improved rigidity, precision, and durability, realized by the optimum use of carefully chosen high-tech materials.
The EOS-1V's revolutionary shutter has been tested to 150,000 cycles.The EOS-1V's electronically controlled rotary magnet shutter has been designed to eliminate the possibility of operational trouble. This shutter unit ensures constant operation that remains as accurate as its original performance even after long use and under severe shooting conditions.
In this shutter system, the first and second shutter curtains are controlled by a non-contact rotary magnet, which does not suffer sticking problems due to dust accumulation. The shutter blades are made of carbon fiber and super-duralumin, for high reliability in all shooting conditions over extended use.
The EOS-1V's capacity to capture moving subjects with the outstanding tracking performance and high focusing speed of 45-point Area AF propels autofocusing into the new millennium.45-point Area AF is the result of Canon's pursuit of an AF system that allows continuous shooting ease and expanded framing freedom. The 45 focusing points are densely packed within an 8 x 15 mm zone and can be manually or automatically selected to meet the needs of the situation. When multiple points are selected, AF system capabilities are significantly extended. Born of Canon's original technology, this system has been refined for the EOS-1V to ensure the unconditional reliability, accuracy and high focusing speeds requisite for professional use.
At a rate of 9 fps, AI Servo AF delivers the fastest predictive focusing in the world.The predictive AI Servo AF system allows the tracking of fast-moving objects while maintaining precise focus. This system affords impressive results in terms of continuous shooting and boasts excellent sequential processing efficiency.
Sequential processing regulates an array of events within the exposure process, including the arithmetic processing of AE and AF, the driving of the lens, aperture control, and movement of the mirror and shutter curtains.
In addition to developing new sequencing for the EOS-1V, every operation and its respective control time sequence has been reexamined in order to reduce operation time and realize parallel processing.
A significant step in the technology of the EOS-1V is the newly adopted Active Mirror Control method, which reduces the operation time of the mirror to allow shooting at a rate of 9 fps. This device is fundamental to the stability of the AI Servo AF system.
As for precision, the EOS-1V is capable of heightened focusing accuracy thanks to a newly developed predictive algorithm.

It's a shock to me to find that many years after release, no one has written a review of the EOS 1V. This is one sweet camera. It has a carved of a chunk feel that tells me that I can use it hard and not have to worry that it will let me down. There are enough pro features to cover any challenge.
I bought mine because I shoot a lot of motor sports and this baby autofocuses faster than my Nikon F5 (a camera I really like too). The metering system, once you extablish the proper ISO of your film, is dead nuts on. I leave the camera on "P" for program for most assignments and use the amazing matrix meter setting for surprisingly accurate results. Case in point, I recently did a salon shoot of a Ferrari 308GTB and the guy at my prolab said "the exposures were great, as usual."
Some cool things that I love about the EOS 1V: I wear glasses and I can see the entire view finder with ease. The camera handles like a dream in the horizontal and vertical position (mine has the motor drive with the second shutter release - I recommend it to any serious action shooter.) Film loading is a snap. With custom functions, you can prevent the camera from rewinding at the end of the roll - a good idea in a church or other quiet setting. The camera is weather sealed with gaskets on buttons and switches. If you have newer EOS lenses, these include gaskets around the lens mount. These, combined with the gasket built into the EOS 1V body help keep the moisture outside if you find yourself shooting in damp conditions. (No, the camera is not waterproof. But it's well sealed against all but the worst that mother nature can throw at you.
I shoot a lot of slide film, so in tricky lighting situations (e.g., back lighting, subjects that are very dark or very light, etc.) exposure bracketing is part of the deal. The exposure dial on the back of the body makes it easy to do 3 or 5 or more quick exposures, varying each by one third of an f-stop.
I have run several hundreds of roll of film through my EOS 1V (The camera has a feature that imprints the roll number on the leader tab) with nary a problem. If you are still shooting film (and I know a bunch of us are still out there), this is one outstanding camera worthy of your consideration. And, given the cost of the new Nikon F6, it seems to be a bargain too. (If you are looking to spend a little less money, the EOS 3 has a lot of the same features except, of course, price.)

The more I held this camera the better it felt.It was everything ,everyone had promised.No regrets but there was a small fly in the ointment(the buying experience).
For reasons I can never explain, I asked Amazon if a battery ,type 2CR5, should have been in the box.The prompt reply was "yes".I got a shock to say the least.Not because I had been short changed out of a $6 battery but that I could have been sold an used or returned item.I trust Amazon but mistakes do happen.So another e-mail to Amazon but this time they said that the previous e-mail was wrong and no battery is included in the package.They offered a $50 rebate into my credit card account as a form of compensation for the distress they had caused me.Being the el' cheapo I accepted it.However to my suprise, Canon USA ,whom I had checked with about the battery, said there should have been a battery in the box.Here we go again I thought.Now I am thinking could the guy at Canon been wrong.Maybe he, being new to this field is thinking of the EOS DIGITAL cameras which come with batteries.Can anyone tell me if this camera(EOS-1V) comes with a battery?
